Welcome!

Hello fellow traveler, and welcome to Toulouse Backpackers. My name is Luis Felipe Carrillo, I’m an international student from Colombia currently living in Toulouse for the year 2022-2023. You can learn more about who I am clicking here.

I am glad you found my blog, and I hope you can find useful the information that I will be sharing over the next year. Before you start browsing, I will like to explain how this blog is going to work, how the information will be divided and my aim behind all of this.

So, what is this blog all about?

So, as you guys already know, my name is Luis Felipe, I come from Colombia and this is my second time here in Europe. More specifically, I will be living for the next year here in Toulouse in order to complete my Master in Science degree on Digital Marketing and e-commerce in Toulouse Business School.

I’ve always loved traveling, I would say is my favorite hobby. I’ve been fortunate enough to have traveled to several countries in the past. When I knew I was coming to study in Toulouse, what I was most excited about was to travel as much as I could and get to know different cultures and places.

However, this time I knew it would be different. This time, I’m here as a student and I’m on a budget, which makes things a little bit more challenging. So, as much as I would like to travel, I also want to do it in a conscious and budget friendly way. This has been my objective for the past month, and will be for the next year.

In this blog I will share all of my traveling experiences and best traveling tips, from the perspective of an international student living in Toulouse and living on a budget.

Who is this blog for?

So, this blog is directed to all students living in Toulouse, who love traveling just as me, but don’t want to spend all of their budget on traveling and sacrifice their basic needs (eating, going out, etc). From my past experiences I’ve learned that many times due to our lack of experience and knowledge we tend to spend more money on unnecessary things, or spend more on things we could’ve found cheaper if we only knew better. Also, I’ve found that there are plenty of hidden gems or not so well-documented places that are just as enjoyable and magic as the common tourist traps, but way cheaper.

In this sense, I want you to see me as a friend that will share with you all about my traveling experiences while living in Toulouse, how I’ve managed to save money, to travel cheaper, what expenses do I consider not worth it, and also what hidden places you should visit. I want you to learn from my experience so that you avoid all of the mistakes I’ve made while traveling, and get to enjoy this opportunity as much as you can!

How will be the blog divided?

I have planned this blog to be divided into two different sections

  • CheapTraveling Tips

In this section I will be sharing my recommendations for cheap traveling experiences, departing from Toulouse. This tips will range from how to save on train tickets, how to save on food, when and where to travel from Toulouse so that you get the best prices ever, etc. The majority of blogs portray traveling as easy. However, when we don’t have all of the information, traveling can get frustrating. In that sense, with my tips I want to help you avoid this frustrations.

As I said before, this tips will be Toulouse-based. However, many of them will be a little bit more general so they can be adapted and applied even if you are not living here. In order to access to this section click here.

  • Hidden Gems near Toulouse

This section is pretty self explanatory, it will be dedicated to show the different places near Toulouse that might not be as well documented as the common travel destinies found in other travel blogs. I want to give you a detailed experienced of these places, which I call hidden gems. Usually travel blogs focus on tourist traps near the city. However, I want to help you get to know the region in depth. Click here to access this section.
